British Ceylon 1796-1948:
The Dutch possessions in Ceylon were surrendered to the British forces in 1796 and the British government also took over the Promissory notes issued by the Dutch government in Ceylon. Also the British coinage retained the popular Dutch denominations in their coinage, the Rix Dollar now being divided into 12 Fanams, 48 Stivers and now called Pice and 192 Challies.
